For those with an interest in the looming Japanese integrated resort industry, the afternoon session at today’s MGS Summit is not to be missed.
With the theme of “The development opportunity in Japan”, the session will feature a keynote address from Cabinet Councilor Naoya Haraikawa examining the concept of IR development law and the future process of implementation. Haraikawa will be followed by a fascinating panel discussion moderated by Inside Asian Gaming CEO Andrew W Scott and featuring Japanese industry experts discussing the vital issues that will determine what Japan’s IRs look like. They include the financial prospects for Japanese IRs, possible sites and locations, the issuance of gaming licenses and more.
The Japanese government is expected to issue three IR licenses in 2019 with two located in metropolitan cities and one in a regional area. More than 20 casino companies have stated their intention to bid, including global giants Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts and Caesars plus Macau companies Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts and SJM.
